Has this ever occurred to you? The party was too good to leave after only a drink or two. Old mates and new were enjoying themselves. The festive atmosphere had relaxed inhibitions. Smooth drinks of the barkeeper hired by the host tasted like ambrosia. With each additional cocktail the single girls got better looking too.
They are saying all good things must come to a close. So, with a nice hum on it eventually was time to head for the door. Arriving alone at this party would not mean leaving alone though. You had hooked up with exciting new chum and she was coming along for more than a trip home.
Blood alcohol levels deemed to mar driving have come down gradually. A famous congressman just about lost the election when it was revealed he once was caught for DUI. Not too tight but snug enough to remind you that without Houdini to help they were staying on.
As you watched your new auto being loaded on the tow truck, the last thing on your intellect now was what might have been with the new friend. A display you were to make at work in the morning was now in major jeopardy. Suddenly you spotted that being locked up in jail was not just something you saw on TV. Even through the fog of intoxication your stress was building.
When the patrol auto pulled into the double gated area where prisoners were scheduled you spotted that the man shortly to be in jail was you. How could that be possible? You had not even received a parking ticket. Now you were facing heavy charges, exorbitant fine, insurance rates raised to the sky and, of course, the lawyer’s fee and court costs. As a guy good with numbers you began to figure the price of each drink you had consumed at that wonderful party.
Instead of the jail cells you had seen so many times in those Western pictures you loved, you ended up in a massive holding cell with virtually 100 other men. A lot of them were far less educated than you and held roles requiring a lot of muscle and sweat. They didn’t dress the way you did. Your shoes, slacks and name brand shirt surely cost more than the wardrobe of a few of these blokes.
